It's absolutely no secret that I love, love, love an afternoon tea. I love the whole ritual of it: having a pretty pot of steaming tea gently placed in the centre of the table, daintily holding the lid and tipping the tea into gorgeous china cups; starting with a couple of sandwiches, only a couple. I have a wicked sweet tooth, and learnt pretty early in life that if you have to many sandwiches it means that you can't finish the desserts. Rookie mistake! Then I move onto the scone, filling it (always cream first, regardless of what anyone else says!) with a mini mountain of clotted cream and jam. Then with great restraint trying not to eat all the pretty, jewel like desserts at once.
The fact that there's a week dedicated to celebrating this most decadent of meals is pretty amazing! It's the one week of the year that I forget about calories, and just eat. Someone, somewhere says it's the law, and who am I to argue. I hope that you all take the time to treat yourselves to at least one gorgeous afternoon tea, or push the boat out with a high tea (a posh sausage roll never hurt anyone) this week. Roll on the millefeuilles, eclairs, tartlets, and petits fours!
